Donor Spotlight: The Cons Family
The Cons family has a long history with the JGH. Helen and Stanley, with their children Debbie and Ronnie, Leslie and Michael, and Renee and Jay Rosenzweig, their grandchildren and their great grandchildren span four generations of Cons whose ties to the JGH have taken on various forms over the past 40 years. “Our children were born here and our parents received end-of-life care here,” says Helen Cons. “We have nothing but good words for this amazing hospital and its incredible staff, which have always treated us with the utmost dignity, respect and compassion.”
When the opportunity presented itself to help out the JGH, the Cons did not hesitate. “We simply asked what would be most helpful,” recalls Helen. While discussing the many needs of the hospital, the family was drawn by the unique vision and the values guiding the planned renovation of the 6NW Geriatric Unit: to provide for a safe and stimulating family-oriented environment that addresses the needs of the elderly, preserves their dignity, and empowers them to lead a healthy and fulfilling life and develop meaningful relationships and connections to their spouses, siblings, children, grandchildren and other caring people around them. “Our elderly deserve to be recognized, respected and treated with dignity. They remain valuable contributors to our society and have earned the right to continue to have a meaningful life. We are proud to be able to play a role in making this vision a reality,” explains Helen.
“It is not what one says, but rather what one does, that makes all the difference in the world,” says Myer Bick, President and CEO of the JGH Foundation. “The Cons Family Geriatric Unit is truly a gift of immeasurable benefit to the JGH and the entire community, in terms of reinforcing and strengthening our commitment towards improving qualify of life and care for one of the most vulnerable and fastest growing segments of the population. The JGH family is truly grateful to the Cons family.”
