Rags is a seasoned financial leader who transforms organizations by creating strategic focus, formalizing process, improving risk management and introducing a culture of accountability. Success grounded in finance and strategic planning, with extensive REIT, capital restructuring, investor relations, M&A and operations experience.

He was a senior executive at Riocan Real Estate Investment Trust, having left in the summer of 2018 to pursue new opportunities after 10 years working for the REIT. During these 10 years Rags was most recently President and COO, responsible for real estate operations, leasing, development and construction for a portfolio of 200 retail opportunities and 40 million square feet, including 15 properties under development. Prior to his position as President and COO, for the term of 6 years Rags was Executive Vice President and CFO, responsible for strategic planning and financial strategies, corporate finance, financial reporting, investor relations and corporate governance.

Prior to Riocan, Rags spend 2 years at TD Securities as a VP & Director for the Real Estate Investment Banking Group, where he provided advisory services to clients with respect to strategic planning, debt and equity financing, divestitures, IPO’s and M&A transactions.

During the 10 year period proceeding TD Securities, Rags held a number of positions progressing to CFO at O&Y Properties Corp / O&Y REIT. Rags was intimately involved in taking these entities public and eventually selling these entities to a consortium led by Brookfield Properties in 2005.

Rags is chartered accounting by training and obtained his CA designation at Arthur Andersen & Co. where he practiced in tax.

Board work is something Rags is very involved in, specifically charitable organizations. He is Vice Chair & Treasurer of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and board member of Sunnybrook Health Science Centre. Rags was also previously a member of the Guelph University Heritage Trust. During his tenure at Riocan, Rags was also a board member of Cedar REIT, a NYSC listed company, as Riocan’s board designate.

Rags has a keen interest in music, the performing arts, ballet and golf, while he is married with 3 children.
